Simon Raine

Simon Raine is a Visual Artist originally from the UK. He has formed a close relationship with Taranaki since moving here in 2016. For Simon making art is about the process of discovery. He has always created, his work developing slowly and inspired by thoughts, emotions and questions arising from his day-to-day life. Simon wants the viewer to experience and enjoy his artwork and to share, for a short time, his view of the world in which we live. Simon’s ideas often originate as a response to the Taranaki landscape. An avid photographer, Simon weaves his images into his paintings. Simon’s recent work investigates our dramatic Taranaki seascape. People have been walking a thin line between progress and exploitation in recent decades. Simon wants to draw attention to the formidable but fragile ocean on our doorstep.
