Mike Brown

I carve mostly from cow bone - contemporary designs with an abstract twist. My carvings are inspired by nature with a nod to human relationships, character qualities and spiritual development. Most of my carvings are to be worn. My greatest satisfaction comes from matching my carving to the right person. It is like the completion of a circle which begins with inspiration and ends with meaningful connection. For the new owner there is a deep “knowing” of the emotional and spiritual dimensions to their carving. The head goes up, the shoulders go back, the chest comes out, the hand moves to the piece – physical evidence of emotional and spiritual confidence. I love working with bone as a material. It is strong, but soft enough to be worked with steel tools. I love the feel of it - natural and organic. My pieces can last for hundreds of years and be handed down from generation to generation.
