Julia Chochola

Julia CHOCHOLA (1988) was born in Czech republic, studied drawing and painting since preschool age. At the age of 17, she set out on her own to seek absolute freedom both in life and in painting. She traveled through her birth country, half of Europe and some other continents before happily residing in Taranaki, NZ. Her young years were about perfecting many artistic styles, until in 2011 she found her way to abstraction and began to devote herself to it fully. Since then, she has opened her studio Heart space, her own gallery on Janáček Embankment Prague and The Gallery in New Plymouth. The versatile artist Julia Chochola paints, tattoos, sculpts and makes art from animal skulls or even swords. Expressive dark paintings have been replaced with paintings covered in shining 24ct gold and lately with Taranaki's blues and greens. Her art thus responds to life, which is not always a fairy tale, but also is, if you want it.
