Hodgson has developed an idiosyncratic style of painting, intentionally avoiding a single recognisable genre. Mainly an abstractionist in acrylic and mixed media. Perspective and architectural principles frequently feature in his abstractions, with clean lines and a wide colour palette. His fascination with structures has resulted in his architectonic style of painting. “I am painting every day, as the need to be expressive is a happy impulse for me. Many of my works are untitled and I usually don’t explain my paintings, as the value of abstract art is in how it can stimulate and intrigue the viewer. My work may perplex or confront the viewer but I try to make them as aesthetically striking as possible. Paintings are like a new angle on the world - a device that gives us the opportunity to see existence in a different light; a different frame of reference - art takes us deeper”.
